Meet this girl from Bangalore, Shalini, who is brimming with confidence about her maiden film ‘Mussanjeya Gelathi’, set to hit the silver screens across Karnataka on August 21. Shalini plays a college student in the film while her father, BP Srinivas, plays a professor who falls for her. The film’s poster claims that it is the first time in India that a father is acting as the hero, with his daughter playing the heroine.
This proposition on the posters of Mussanjeya Gelathi generated a lot of curiosity.
Tabloids went after Srinivas for acting with his own daughter, and he was busy explaining the objective of the film and the circumstances that compelled him to allow his daughter to act in that film.
Shalini was busy giving explanations to all about her role in the film. There were days when she had to attend innumerable phone calls from her friends just to clear doubts over the film. “Initially, I found it difficult to explain the situation to my friends. But now, they are waiting for the release of the film to get a clear picture,” says Shalini.
How does Shalini take all the gossiping? “Gossips are gossips.
I need not waste my time on them. I am not taking the tabloids seriously because writing nonsense is their job. It would have been better if they had waited till the release the film. It is not fair to write whatever they want. A few tabloids wrote that my father and I are running around trees in the film. What kind of journalism is this?” asks Shalini.
Shalini, who has recently completed her PU and is now pursuing BBM through correspondence, says that she is focusing on her career and not being hassled by the adverse publicity. She says that she has been selected for the lead role in the films Harishchandra Ghat , Black Forest and an untitled film. The last film will be directed by D Rajendra Babu. “I am to play the daughter of a multi-millionaire. My father will be my reel-life father, and Akshay (the hero in Ganga Kaveri ) will be the hero.
The film’s shooting will commence shortly,” Shalini says.
Is Shalini trying to shed a few kilos? “Yes. I want to look slim. I am taking only one glass of milk in the morning. My lunch consists of either one ragi ball or a little rice or one or two chapattis. I take only fruits and vegetables for dinner.
I am following a dietician’s advice and working out,” she says.
She also says that she will be one of the heroines in the film Ee Moovaralli Yaaru Hithavaru , directed and produced by her father Srinivas.
