BANGALORE: Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) on Tuesday imposed a one-year ban on actress Ramya for her adamant attitude.

KFCC President Basantkumar Patil told presspersons that he would write letters to film industries of other languages too, asking them not to engage Ramya in their films.

Patil said he tried to solve the issue amicably, but to no avail. He said he had written a letter to Kannada Film Artistes’ Association President, Ambarish, on Monday but had not got the reply. Patil said he had invited Ambarish for a meeting on Tuesday but he did not turn up citing busy schedule.

The KFCC president added that they had asked producer Ganesh to clear dues of `3.75 lakh before the release of the film Dhandam Dashagunam.

Producer Sa Ra Govindu came down heavily on Ramya for making derogatory remarks against director-cum-producer S V Rajendra Singh Babu. He said the actress should tender unconditional apology to him.

Directors’ Association President M S Ramesh ridiculed Ramya’s announcement to quit Kannada cinema. He said she was not getting any movie offers anyway.

Producers’ Association President K C N Chandrashekar said the whole issue was akin to a storm in a tea cup.

‘Ban me for what?’

Reacting to the news of KFCC’s decision to ban her, Ramya asked what did she do to deserve it.

“Is it for helping a producer when he was in a financial crisis? Is it for asking my money back? What is the use of this ban when I had already announced my decision to quit?” she said.

Ambarish said no one should threaten artistes.

“The days of people threatening artistes are over. Artistes are not knocking the doors of producers requesting to include them in the star cast for their films. It is producers who approach artistes,” he said.
