Former chairman of the State Cultural Council and well-known filmmaker RV Ramana Murthy died here on Sunday. He was 78.
Ramana Murthy was born in East Godavari district and pursued his studies in Visakhapatnam. He was an active worker of the Congress and served as chairman of the party’s publicity wing in 1980.
Murthy produced several Telugu films including the blockbuster, Abhinandana, whose songs are still popular. His documentary, Pragati Pathamlo Bhagyanagaram, produced in 1969 won the Nandi award. Neerajanam, produced by him in 1989, was also a hit. His yet another hit film, Sri Sai Mahima, produced in 2000, won five Nandi awards.
Chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy visited the residence of Murthy and expressed grief over the demise. He recalled Murthy’s contribution to culture and literature, and condoled with the bereaved family members.
