Ramu's Kannada debut is about Veerappan

Express News Service

The fact that Ramgopal Varma was all set to make his film starring our very own Shivrajkumar was first broken by City Express. And now the director has announced the concept around which the plot will be based.

“I have been immensely interested in doing a film on Veerappan for years now and I have finally got the most perfect script which I think will show Veerappan in all his various facets. Nowhere else has there been a criminal with such a dramatic backstory and I have managed to piece together his life from unnameable and highly secretive sources. For me the biggest hero is the man who killed one of the greatest villains of our times and this film will be the untold story of the man who ended Veerappan’s reign of terror and that is why the concept is called  Killing Veerappan.

The reason this Sandalwood smuggler was so infamous was that he was unparalleled in his cunning, ruthlessness, and barbarism.

He killed more than 800 elephants and 227 seven people including 72 police officers. (Numbers vary depending on sources)and the three state governments of India spent more than Rs 600 crores for his capture over a span of 15 years. Killing Veerappan is not the story of Veerappan but it’s going to be the story of the man who killed Veerappan. Shivrajkumar is the perfect choice for this film as his own father, the legendary superstar Rajkumar was kidnapped by  Veerappan. So here’s a case of the real-life son taking “reel” revenge on the villain.
