It is interesting to note that old time producers are coming back to invest in Kannada films. Among them is producer Jayashree Devi. As a passionate filmmaker, she produced films like Prema Raga Haadu Gelathi, Nammoora Mandara Hoove, Eedaite and Sri Manjunatha. Last year she even took the remake rights of Kannada film Sharavani Subramanya to be made in Telugu. The latest buzz is that she has taken the rights of the Hindi film OMG Oh My God! to make it in Kannada.
A satirical comedy-drama film released in 2012, the film directed by Umesh Shukla is based on a Gujarati stage-play entitled Kanji Virudh Kanjiit, featuring Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal in the lead roles, along with Mithun Chakraborty playing a pivotal role. The film was critically well received and also marked the entry of Sandalwood girl Nidhi Subaiah in Bollywood. OMG was remade in Telugu as Gopala Gopala with Venkatesh and Pawan Kalyan in lead roles.
Though an official announcement is yet to be made for the Kannada remake, according to the latest buzz in Gandhinagar, MD Sridhar will helm the project and the makers have confirmed that Upendra will get into the shoes of Akshay Kumar. “Ravichandran has been approached to play Paresh Rawal’s role. Since the producer is used to roping in multiple stars in her film, she is in the process of talking to a few big artistes to play important characters,” our source told us. If everything goes as planned, the film will go on floors in November.
As reported earlier, there was news that Sudeep was doing a cameo role in the OMG Kannada remake for his friend, Yogi Dwarakish, which may not be the case now. Meanwhile, Upendra will start Kalpana 2 from November 18 and he will be acting in another film to be directed Naganna, which is supposed to be an original script, titled Chandini.
