“It is a unique subject and a film with a universal message and that’s one of reasons we wanted to make it in Kannada,” says Sampath Kumar, who is currently producing Pranam Devaraj’s debut Kumari 21 F along with VG Sridhar.

While Oppam has impressed stars like Kamal Haasan and Akshay Kumar, who have plans to make it in Tamil and Hindi respectively, Sampath Kumar says he has a list of Kannada actors in mind. Those under consideration include Ravichandran, Upendra, Shivarajkumar, Ramesh Aravind and Arjun Sarja. “A few Kannada actors I mentioned can really do justice to this subject and it all depends on the artistes’ dates and whether they can fit the bill. I will be in Bengaluru next week and decide on the lead. Even the director and the rest of the cast and technicians are yet to be finalised,” he says.

The crime thriller made in Malayalam was based on a story by Govind Vijayan.  Mohanlal plays Jayaraman, a blind man and the prime suspect in a crime he
encountered.  It is only matter of time, we get to know who will get into the shoes of Mohanlal in the Oppam remake.
