Rarely do actors move on to direct TV serials, like Naveen Krishna has. The actorturned- director has started his second innings by directing a socio-mythological serial, Girija Kalyana, and now he is on his second series titled Pattedari Prathibha.

“To be frank, after a film like Actor, I didn’t get any offers,” says Naveen. “I was always interested in direction and an opportunity to direct on small screen came along. It was a challenge to start with a socio-mythological subject and I thought this would be a good launch for me as a director.

When the serial was winding up, I was planning my next move and right then Pattedari Prathiba was offered to me. I accepted it this time because of the genre. It is not the regular daughter-inlaw and mother-in-law fight, this is a family drama and a detective series. One woman in the family is also a detective. I found this an interesting mix.” Naveen, who is ready with content for 15 episodes, is happy to bring out a serial which he says will be similar to a cinematic experience.

“I wanted to bring the essence of a film in a serial,” he says. With no directorial experience, Naveen says that this stint is creatively fulfilling. He says, “Direction is giving more me satisfaction than acting. Being an actor, I learnt many techniques from many directors. I have also realised that a director gets to call the shots. In fact, after having tried my hand at writing, both screenplay and dialogue, I am now happy venturing into direction.” Naveen didn’t think of referring to any crime novels or serials because he considers cinema his school. “I grew up watching four cinemas a day,” he says. “I learnt my lessons from watching movies. Now I’d like to follow my intuition.”
