Inspired by the great Indian epic Mahabharata, filmmakers have thrown the dice and are trying to outdo each other in making an adaption of this mythological tale. Each promising a unique twist to the plot.

We had SS Rajamouli creating a buzz with talk of such a production, and even having discussions with Aamir Khan. Now we hear V A Shrikumar Menon will be directing Indian cinema’s most expensive film Randamoozham (Mahabharata in other languages) starring Mohanlal. Sandalwood is not far behind with Kurukshetra, which will now be Darshan’s 50th film.

The film produced by Munirathna, will be directed by Naganna, who had previsouly helmed  Kranti Veera Sangolli Rayanna for Darshan, which was a blockbuster hit. With Munirathna getting a green signal from Darshan, Naganna is readying himself with the pre-production and the makers have even fixed a launch date. The film will go on floors on July 23, on Munirathna’s birthday.

Confirming the news, Munirathna says, “The preparations are on. As of now we have only confirmed Darshan, who will be seen as Duryodhana. The rest of the cast will be finalised in a month’s time.” he says.

Ask the producer about the investment and he says he has planned it as an epic drama. “I have placed no limit on the budget,” he says. “It will be decided during its making and this will be made to
suit Indian standards.”
