THIEUVANATHAPURAM: "My role in ‘Rama Ravanan’ is, in fact, a realisation of Madhavikutty’s wish," said Suresh Gopi about his role of ‘Thiruselvam’, an LTTE terrorist, in his new film ‘Rama Ravanan’.

He was speaking to the media at Press Club here on Sunday after the preview of his new film, which is based on Madhavikutty’s novel ‘Manomi’.

The actor recollected how Madhavikutty had once expressed a wish to see him in the role of the hero of her novel ‘Manomi’.

"If ever ‘Manomi’ comes on screen, I want you to don the role of the protagonist’. When she said me so, I felt it a great honour," Suresh Gopi said.

He added that he valued the character as one of the memorable roles he has ever done in his career.

The actor also made a plea to the viewers to desist from judging his films without viewing. "When I do a role, I want to know how it goes with my viewers. Unfortunately, there have been several attempts to sideline me and my films. I want people to watch my films and give out their genuine critical remarks," he said.

Responding to Prithviraj’s remark that Malayalam superstars should do roles that suit their age, he said that the stars are well aware of what they are doing. "Age is not a limit to stars. We have people booing at Mammootty when he dances. But those people do not realise that there are many who want him to do that. If Rajnikanth is paired with a much younger heroine, we clap. If Mammootty does the same in a better way we mock at him. It is this attitude that needs to be changed," he said.

The film, directed by Biju Vattappara, is about the relationship between a terrorist and a village girl. The film has Suresh Gopi and Mithra Kurian in the lead roles.
