KOCHI: Looks like the winners of beauty contests are on the way to becoming film stars in Malayalam.

Indu Thampy, the winner of the Miss Kerala title this year will play the title role in ‘Anabela,’ the directorial debut of yesteryear actress Ambika. Most of the other actors will be newcomers.

Produced by Arjun Nair under the banner of South Indian Media, the film is based on a story by Suresh Nair, who is also Ambika’s brother. The dialogues will be penned by Ambika herself.

Meanwhile, model, dancer and singer Aishwarya Muraleedharan will also be making her acting debut through ‘Veendum Kannur,’ a sequel to ‘Kannur’ that was released in the 90’s, starring Manoj K Jayan and Vani Viswanath in key roles. Aishwarya has acted in several plays and had even won the Best Singer prize in the Gulf Edition of Kairali Channel’s ‘Gandharva Sangeetham’. She has also been selected as Miss Beautiful Smile in the Miss South India contest.

The shoot of ‘Veendum Kannur’ is expected to start shortly.
