The chatty and vivacious Rimi Tomy, who is more than a household name, is set to make her acting debut in 5 Sundarikal, a romantic anthology film. She will play a part in the movie Nayika directed by Aashiq Abu.
Quiz Rimi on what finally convinced her to give acting a shot, she says: “When Aashiq Abu called me for the part, I could not resist it because Aashiq is an established name and his movies have something substantial to offer. Moreover, I only had a day’s work and I play the friend of Kavya Madhavan,” says Rimi who is paired up with actor Tini Tom in the movie.
No, she isn’t playing the loud and bubbly character that she is. “I play a serious character with no hints of comedy,” says Rimi.
Despite the debut, Rimi says that acting isn’t her forte. But, how can someone like her, who is moulded for the camera, say no to the silver screen? “I am not confident enough for movies. Acting is not easy as hosting a TV show or performing on stage. Many told me to go the location two or three ahead of the shoot to get myself acquainted with the set and people. But, I am still apprehensive,” she says.
She has been turning down the offers from film dom that came her way. “Many directors have called me for their movies for guest roles and others. But I choose not to give it a try,” she says.
Rimi adds with laughter that she has even told Aashiq Abu to chop off her role if he doesn’t find her convincing. “I told Aashiq to cut me off mercilessly. Now, you know how confident I am,” she breaks into laughter.
Neverthless, Rimi is waiting for the movie to hit theatres. “Let’s see after the movie releases. If everything turns out well and my family, including my husband Royce, supports me, I might consider movies,” she says. Right now, she has her hands full. “I don’t have time for anything else. Singing for movies, stage performances and TV shows have left me little time for anything else,” says Rimi Tomy.
