Dileep’s movies have always been total laugh riots, packed with side-splitting one-liners and light-hearted moments that clearly target the younger breed of audience among the mass viewers. The shooting of yet another movie of this genre is currently progressing, and the director, Sudheesh Sankar says Villali Veeran has every ingredient to pull the fans of the star to the theatres.
Sidharthan, the protagonist played by Dileep, is a vegetable vendor with a rustic charm. “Sidharthan, or Sidhu, as he is known among the villagers, has a large family to support. With father (Siddique) in jail, he has to shoulder the responsibility of his family, comprising his mother (Seetha), three widowed sisters and their eight children,” explains the director.
Sidhu tries hard to make ends meet, and the sole aim of the selfless youngster is the happiness of his family, says Sudheesh, adding quickly that the film is not about the woes of the hero. “There is much more in store as far as the storyline is concerned,” he says.
A marriage proposal and subsequent incidents that crop up are the turning points of the movie. “Sidhu reaches Narmada’s house and several hilarious sequences follow that are sure to entertain the viewers,” explains the hero. Narmada, played by Namitha Pramod, is an ad filmmaker. Lalu Alex and Vinaya Prasad play her parents in the film. Meanwhile, another interesting character (played by Mythili) arrives at Sidhu’s house with tales to woo the hero, thereby adding to the fun.
“The tongue-in-cheek dialogues and a story rich with goodness are the highlights of the movie,” says the director, adding that there is also a suspense element in the story. No wonder the previous name of the film was Buddhettan, indicating the altruistic nature of the hero. “But we changed the title as we didn’t want to hurt the feelings of any particular community,” the director says.
The film has a large cast, most of whom are comedy actors like Suraj Venjarammoodu, Kottayam Nazeer, Kalabhavan Shajon, Saju Kodiyan, Dharmajan, Valsala Menon and Neena Kurup.
Another highlight of the movie is its music. While Tamil music director S A Rajkumar, who has composed some evergreen Tamil songs is the music director, Shreya Ghoshal is set to croon a number for Villali Veeran. Other singers have not yet been decided.
Anil Nair, who has been associated with Dileep in many movies, cranks the camera for this mass entertainer. The editing is by Jayasankar.
The major shooting locations of the film are Thodupuzha, Kochi, Alappuzha and Mumbai.
The film is slated for an Onam release.
