The remake of a Telugu blockbuster that set cash registers ringing, Dileep at his comic best, a beautiful Nikki Galrani playing his lady love and a monumental set that is already in news, ‘Ivan Maryadaraman’, directed by debutant Suresh Divakar, promises to be everything to look forward to this summer.
The movie is a legal remake of Telugu hit ‘Maryada Rammanna’ and is a clean entertainer, something families can enjoy, says Suresh. “The movie is your perfect vacation treat. It will be a comic ride with Dileep at his best,” says the director. The movie will hit theatres this Friday.
‘Ivan Maryadaraman’ follows the life of Raman, a rice mill employee, who goes around in his bicycle carrying rice to be processed. “But, life has something else in store for him. His journey to his native place takes an unexpected turn,” says the director.
The movie, inspired from Buster Keaton’s ‘Our Hospitality’, has its share of fun, drama and action.
According to the director, when the idea to remake the Telugu hit popped up, he was sure that Dileep would do total justice to the role. “I have known Dileep from my days as assistant director in ‘Kochi Rajavu’. So, I was convinced that Dileep would fit the bill,” says the director.
But, has the story line been changed so as to suit the Malayali milieu? “Of course, the story and characters have been altered a bit to get the Malayali feel. But, a very significant change is that many new characters have been introduced in ‘Ivan Maryadaraman’,” says the director. Suresh is equally excited about Nikki-Dileep pairing. “This is first time that Dileep is paired opposite Nikki. Both are very talented actors and the audience can see their crackling chemistry in the movie,” he says and adds that everybody in the crew were extremely cooperative.
“The movie met with many unexpected hindrances during its shoot. The climate was adverse and there were many other problems. But, everybody in the crew had been extremely cooperative and supportive,” says Suresh.
‘Ivan Maryadaraman’ has already set the tongues wagging, thanks to the colossal set erected for the movie at Pollachi. This, the director says, was very important for the movie. “Such a huge house was imperative. A major portion of the movie takes place inside the set of a house. So we needed a huge place. Though it cost a lot, it is an unavoidable part of the movie,” says the director.
The script for ‘Ivan Maryadaraman’ has been penned by Udaykrishna-Sibi K Thomas. Gopi Sunder has composed the music. “Music has a huge role in the movie and there are three songs,” says the director. The movie is produced by Anto Joseph under the banner of Anto Joseph Film Company. Vijay Ulaganath cranks the camera.
