KOCHI: Malayalam actor Nivin Pauly has got a clean chit in the rape allegation case in which he and five others were facing a police probe. Police recently filed a report at Kothamangalam Judicial First Class Magistrate Court to discharge Nivin from the case related to raping a woman at a hotel in Dubai last year.
The case was registered at Onnukal Police Station in Ernakulam against six persons including Nivin for allegedly raping a woman in Dubai on December 14 and 15 last year. The complainant had alleged that she went to the hotel in Dubai after being offered a role in a film. According to her, after the rape, the accused persons recorded her videos and threatened to release the footage. She decided to disclose the incident after several women came forward with complaints of sexual offences by actors and other people in the film industry following the revelations in the Justice Hema Committee report.
However, during the probe conducted by a team under DySP TM Varghese, it was found that Nivin was not in Dubai when the alleged incident took place. Police examined the mobile phone of Nivin, and checked his travel history including entries on his passport as part of the investigation.
"We could not find any evidence against Nivin. The allegation raised by the complainant against Nivin did not corroborate with evidence we collected as part of the probe. But there is evidence against other accused persons in the case. Hence, we decided to discharge Nivin from the case. The report was given to remove him from the accused list," an officer said.
Soon after the incident, actor Vineeth Sreenivasan who is a close friend of Nivin released documents revealing that on December 14 and 15, the actor was in Kochi as part of film shooting of "Varshangalkku Shesham" movie. Earlier, Nivin also denied the allegation and said that he would legally challenge the case.
