‘Sanju Weds Geetha’ (Kannada, Sentimental Drama)

Director: Nagasekhar

Cast: Kitty, Ramya, Sharath Lohitasva, Arun Sagar, Jaijagadeesh,

The USP of ‘Sanju Weds Geetha’ is its apt script. Director Nagasekhar has succeeded in narrating the story well during the pre-intermission session but has lost control in the second half. The movie would have been better if the director had ensured the same pace in narration of the script.

Ramya, known for playing glamorous roles, deserves appreciation for following the script instead of focusing on her make-up. She has acted well in emotional sequences. Kitty’s performance has been improved when compared to his earlier movies. However, he looks stoic in a few sequences. The movie is about Sanju (Kitty) who secures gold medal in engineering exam.

Sanju happens to see Geetha alias Puttakka (Ramya) helping poor. Impressed by her philanthropic attitude and beauty, he falls in love with her. She tries to keep herself away but the more she tries the more he comes close. He craves for her despite knowing about an unpleasant incident that happened with Puttakka during her childhood.

Meanwhile, Geetha’s relatives have other ideas. They want her to marry an affluent person but she rejects their suggestion and decides to marry Sanju. Both of them are about to get married but her relative comes in the way. He tries to kill Geetha after raping. Sanju comes to know about it and kills the relative. As usual, he lands up in prison while Geetha loses her memory.

Finally, the movie ends with Geetha losing her life while delivering her child, simultaneously Sanju is shot dead by the police as he tries to escape. Though Sharan has provided some relief with his comedy during the pre-intermission, one needs a little patience to sit through the post-intermission session due to the lack of humour sequences.

The scene where prisoners attempt to organise a cultural programme looks incongruous. However, cinematographer Satya Hegde has done a neat job behind the camera. While Jessy Gift’s music is full of rhythm, Sadhu Kokila’s background music is apt. Songs, especially ‘Sanju mathu Geetha’, are melodious. The movie is worth watching provided you can cope with post-intermission session loaded with sentiment.
