A remake that goes awry

A Sharadhaa

Film: Ziddi (Kannada)

Starring: Prajwal Devaraj, Aindrita Ray, Aisshwarya Nag, Srinivas Murthy, Tilak, Sharath Lohitashwa

Directed by: Ananth Raju

Unfortunately, Ziddi, a remake of one of the most successful films of 2009 in Mollywood Puthiya Mukham (Prithvi Raj and Priyamani), does not even give a hint of its original class. Director Ananth Raju shows very little concern for the plot, unlike Diphan, who directed the original.

The story opens with Krishna Kumar aka Krishna (Prajwal Devaraj) from Theethahalli who is  passionate about classical music and teaches mridangam to kids as he romances his childhood sweetheart Sreedevi  (Aisshwarya Nag). Krishna leaves his home town to join an engineering college in Bangalore where he meets Sahana (Airdrita  Ray) and they become good friends.

This is not tolerated by Sudhi (Tilak) along with his other  two brothers is involved in notorious activities. Sudhi along with his gang beats up Krishna and he goes into a flashback phenomena, which is basically a mental abnormality. The comeback of Krishna and how he takes his revenge is shown in the second half of the film.

Director Ananth Raju fails in duplicating as the remake strains a little too hard with excessive action. Trying to bring the combination of family entertainment and action together, Ziddi loses balance and focuses more on action.

A typical Prajwal's film, which depends more on the element of action, the tale of basic revenge by the hero seems to have never bored the audience.

Aisshwarya fits the character. Aindrita Ray goes by the director and has done a decent job. The rest of the characters like Srinivas Murthy, Sharath Lohitashwa and others have limited roles to play.

Technically, there is nothing much to boast about. Scoring music for the film is Giridhar Diwan who has given mixed combination of retro, devotional and contemporary tunes. The rest of the departments are average.

The Verdict: A story devised with more of action with no intense subject to back it up.
