CHENNAI: Actress Sonia Aggarwal filed a petition in the Family Welfare Court on Wednesday, seeking divorce from her director-husband Selvaraghavan. The petition, which was filed in the presence of Ramalingam, principal judge of the Family Court, cites incompatibility as the reason for the divorce, sought by mutual consent. Sonia Aggarwal, best described as Selvaraghavan’s favourite heroine, worked with the director in three films, 'Kadhal Kondein', '7 G Rainbow Colony' and 'Pudupettai'. Of these, she played lover to Selva’s brother Dhanush in two films. After what is believed to be over a year of courtship, the actress married the director in December 2006.

She then bid adieu to films, and made a re-entry late last year with a Television serial 'Naanam'.

Ever since, a separation between the two has been widely reported. It was first suspected that Selvaraghavan’s family was against the actress’ decision to act again. And later, reports said Sonia was peeved with Selvaraghavan for his alleged closeness to actress Andrea, who plays the heroine in his forthcoming 'Aayirathil Oruvan'. Selvaraghavan had also signed up Andreas for his next film, 'Idhu Malai Nerathu Mayakkam', which was later dropped for unknown reasons. Selvaraghavan and Sonia’s divorce petition was registered immediately.
