With noted actress Meena in the lead, a film on the life of Tarigonda Vengamamba is in the making. Titled `Vengamamba’, the film was launched at a recent function at Annapurna Studios in the city.

Popular as Telugu `Meera,’Vengamamba lived in the 17th and 18th centuries and was an ardent devotee of Lord Venkateswara. Her writings with a good mix of revolution and devotion are popular in Telugu literature.

It is believed that her initiative in those days paved way for the gradual transformation of women in the later years.

MM Keeravani is set to score the music. Uday Bhaskar is the director. V Doraswami Raju, who earlier produced films like `Sitaramaiahgari Manavaralu’, `Presidentgari Pellam’, `Annamayya’ and `Simhadri’, is producing the film under VMC productions banner. RK Raju is the cinematographer.

Saikiran, Sarath Babu, Ranganath, LB Sriram, Rallapalli, Subbaraya Sharma, Gundu Hanumantha Rao, Giri Babu, Ananth, Velu, Chittibabu, Sudha, Siva Parvathi, Ragini and Ashok Kumar appear in other important roles.
