After getting rave reviews for Aattanayagan by debutant Krishnaram, Shakthi Vasu, who was last seen in Ninaithale Inikkum, is all set to try out a different genre — an out and out humorous flick, which still concentrates on a racy action-packed second half. And the next one on cards is Kalla Siripazhaga, with Santhanam, again an action movie handled in a different way. Both are at the initial stages of production.
“I started off as a child artiste in my dad’s (P Vasu) film Chinna Thambi. After Nadigan with Satyaraj, I played the lead in Thottal Poo Malarum, again my dad’s film. I want to stand out as an actor, grow and mature and not be overshadowed by the fact that I am a director’s son myself. I want to try different subjects, different genres and work with different directors, cast and crew,” says Shakthi. “I am a director’s actor, although at a personal level I am a director’s son,” he says. So, it is clear that Shakthi cannot be typified as a romantic, chocolate boy alone, and wants to go an innovation spree. “My dad is my biggest critic. Honestly, I am not around when he is reviewing my work,” he chuckles. “Aattanayagan was one such attempt, which I wanted to give a shot at. I watched the first show at C theatre, Rohini, sitting amidst audiences. It’s so encouraging for an actor to sit amidst audiences and get the feedback first hand. Of course, nobody could make out that it was me who was sitting there and watching the film with them. The whistling, the yelling, the dancing, all these things gave me fresh energy,” he says.
