CHENNAI: Bubbly actress Genelia D’Souza is a busy girl these days. After getting rave reviews for her performance in 'Urumi', the actress is now wrapping up work on her latest Tamil film — M Raja’s 'Velayudham', in which she shares screen space with Vijay. Her most recent Tamil film was 'Uthama Puthiran' with Dhanush.
“This is also my second film with Vijay, after 'Sachein' (2005). It is almost done, excepting two songs that need to be shot. Vijay is a great co-star. He has no starry airs about him and this makes us a hit combination on screen,” says Genelia. She is also looking forward to 'It’s My Life' (Hindi remake of the Telugu film 'Bomarillu') and another Hindi film, 'Force'.
So, has she warmed up to Tamil?
“When someone speaks in Tamil, I can follow it. But I am not so well-versed in speaking the language myself,” she says.
When in Chennai, Genelia loves her south Indian meals and treats herself to the cuisine as often as possible. “I like a complete spread of south Indian meals with hot sambar and poriyal. And I love the pickle varieties and the dry red powder that’s served with dosas and idlis here (molaga podi),” she beams. “Most often, my food is ordered from Saravana Bhavan and Sangeetha,” she adds.
Genelia may come across as a casual and easy dresser, but she says that she loves decking herself up. “I prefer kurtis and pyjamas in light colours for casual wear. As for accessories, I just go with something simple; which complements my outfit. I do have a list of preferred brands; they are many,” she says.
The actress is now back in Mumbai. She will fly back to Chennai on June 22, when 'Velayudham' hits the screens.
