Na Muthukumar, who has written lyrics for over 120 films now, says he initially struggled to pen songs for  films.  “I have been in the industry for seven years now. Be it writing lyrics first or penning the lyrics according to music scored already mean the same to me now. However, I struggled in the beginning,” admits the lyricist.

He says, “ For some of my huge hits like Aval Appadi Ondrum Azhagillai... from Angadi Theru and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi... from SMS, music was scored to suit the lyrics. A seasoned lyricist should be able to produce lyrics for the music that’s been scored and not the other way around,” he says.  In Aravaan too, the singer-turned-music director Karthik has scored music for all the six songs that Na Muthukumar has penned. “Karthik and I are friends for many years and he has sung over a 100 of my songs. He has done a fantastic job in Aravaan and I get good feedback even from Kerala,” he says.
