Director Ezhil, whose Thulladha Manamum Thullum and Poovellam Unvaasam were landmark films in the careers of actors Vijay and Ajith, is ready with his next, Manam Kothi Paravai (MKP). However, this time, he has moved from romantic flicks and has taken a humour subject with anchor-turned-actor Sivakarthikeyan playing the lead. “To me, Kadhalika Neramillai (1964) and Manal Kayiru (1982) are the best comedy movies ever made in Tamil. Nobody can beat Kadhalika Neramillai, but I’m confident that MKP will be on par with Manal Kayiru,” says Ezhil. “In all my movies, the comedy scenes have always been appreciated and I know that my sense of humour is different from others. That gave me confidence that to direct a full-fledged comedy,” adds Ezhil.
The director came up with the idea for this film in his hometown near Mayiladuthurai. “I happened to meet a lot of my friends and it reminded me of many interesting incidents of my childhood. So, when I gathered all of it, it turned out to be nice comedy script,” says the director. But the film is not without a love angle. “The tale of love in the film is inspired from a friend’s life. Sivakarthikeyan plays the role of a building constructor’s son in the movie,” he says.
Ezhil was not aware that Siva was doing Marina when he signed him. He says, “I needed a fresh face with a good sense of humour. But I was aware of how director Pandiraj would portray his characters and decided that Sivakarthikeyan would suit this role. MKP will take him to greater heights,” he assures.
There are five songs in the movie. “The song that starts like Jal Jal... will be one of the highlights,” smiles Ezhil, who also wants to mention lyricist Yuga Bharathi for his support. The audio of the movie will be launched this month, while the flick is all set to hit screens in early May.
