Ambuli, the first-ever stereoscopic 3D film in Tamil cinema, has surely received a lot of attention for its technical wizardry.

Directed by Hari Shankar and Harish Narayan, the sci-fi thriller has now impressed a lot of theatres across the state. What’s latest is that seven new theatres have come forward to screen this film.

Says Harish, “We had first released the film in 100 screens in both polarised and anaglyph format. A few theatres were not polarised (which will give 100 per cent 3D effect) and hence we had chosen to screen the film in anaglyph, which wasn’t as effective as polarised.” However, with the overwhelming response that the film has received, seven theatres from Trichy, Madurai and Coimbatore have now agreed to screen the 3D film using polarised format.

“For this format, the theatre needs to have silver-coated screens and two projectors. It involves a lot of expenditure. Thankfully, most of the theatres in Chennai were polarised and it wasn’t a big issue,” he says.

With more number of theatres showing positive signs for this film, Harish has already started his work on the sequel of Ambuli.
