It’s an era of multi-tasking in Kollywood and hence it’s not unusual to find directors, music directors, producers and other technicians turning heroes and showcasing a new side to themselves. But looks like GV Prakash Kumar, the young music director, has surprised everyone by his decision to turn producer, especially at such a young age.

Ask him about it and he grins, “ I joined the industry when I was 19, as a music director. But production has always been on my mind. I have completed 28 movies as a music director and I am now 25 years old. When I found a good script, I felt it was time to take the plunge.”

GV, as he is popularly known, says that he will do a balancing act between his music and production, “I have a penchant for administration. Besides, I have a partner, NPKS Logu, and my father G Venkatesh is also with me under my banner GV Prakash Kumar Productions.” His first film as producer is an untitled venture that went to the floors in Theni recently.

Incidentally, GV has taken a lot of newcomers in the movie, “I always wanted to encourage fresh blood in the industry. The hero Kadhir is debuting along with the 24-year-old cameraman Rahul Dharman (former assistant to Bollywood’s Ravi K Chandran), and director Vikram Sugumaran (former assistant to Balu Mahendra).  Vikram was also the dialogue writer of Aadukalam. We have included many theatre artistes from Madurai and Theni in the cast.”  GV’s own former assistant NR Raghunanthan, who worked in Neerparavai recently, will be composing the music. Kishore TE is the editor.

Oviya is the heroine and plays a Malayali girl in the Madurai- based story, which is touted as a rustic, action flick with lots of thrills. The first schedule will be for 33 days.
