The young team of the film Hi Da impressed the gathering at the audio launch function with two songs and a trailer on Thursday.
Actor Brinda Das makes her debut as a director with the film.
Director Balaji Mohan, who was present at the event, said that while many realistic films have been made about village lifestyle, very few directors like director Gautham Vasudev Menon have attempted urban realism. “I hope Hi Da will be one such film,” he said.
Balaji also wished the debutant music director Vishal Chandrasekar success, recalling that the latter emerged the best music director in a TV reality show.
The director of Kaadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi fame also said he had assisted only lady directors in his career and wished Brinda Das all the best in her endeavour. Gautham Vasudev Menon credited director Brinda Das as the ‘lady jack of all trades.’
“She not only assisted in production for Kaaka Kaaka but dubbed for one of the roles too. And recently, she worked as a production manager for Perumaan and the film’s director has turned producer for Hi Da. I always say that more female directors should make films as they have better aesthetic sense than men and I’m happy for Brinda Das,” he said.
Director Bhagyaraj recalled directing a TV serial, in which Brinda Das was one of the actors, and heaped praises on her abilities.
He also revealed that he already registered the title Hi about seven years before, but didn’t renew it after Tamil titles were made mandatory for tax exemption.
Director Balaji Thareenatharan, producers P L Thenappan and Siva were other guests who present at the event to encourage the Hi Da team.
