Cinematographer Ramji tells us why working on Irandam Ulagam was special

With the movie slated to be released on November 22, the posters for Selvaraghavan’s Irandam Ulagam has popped up all over the city. The most noticeable thing about the posters are the deep hues that they depict – be it the sepia tones of the alternate world or the blue-grey of reality. Ramji, the cinematographer for the film, said that there were so many colours in the Tamil romantic fantasy drama that it will be like a visual colour palette.

“This is my third film with Selva, and our relationship has only grown stronger over the years. Irandam Ulagam was tough because I had to create a new world with a lot of colours,” Ramji said.

“I thoroughly enjoy my work because each film is different from the other. This one in particular is special because I had the opportunity to learn more about technology. Knowledge never goes waste,” said Ramji, who had previously worked with Selva in Aayirathil Oruvan and Mayakkam Enna.

Irandam Ulagam is a love story set against the backdrop of two different worlds. “The colours reflect the mood of the characters in the film. If the period flick Aayirathil Oruvan was demanding, Irandam Ulagam  was more challenging,” he added.

The PVP Cinema-produced Irandam Ulagam features Arya and Anushka Shetty in the lead roles. It is dubbed in Telugu as Varna and will also be released in other languages such as Hindi, Georgian, Russian and Turkish.
