Amy Jackson, who shot to the limelight with her sterling performance in director A L Vijay’s historical romantic drama Madarasapattinam (2010), has now emerged as one of Tamil cinema’s most-sought after actors.
“This has been my best year so far. I have shot for four films. Thangamagan with Dhanush, Gethu, Singh is Bling (2015) and I have also started work on the Vijay-starrer Theri. This apart, I will also work on Shankar’s Endhiran 2,” says Amy, with a hint of pride.
The first of the Tamil flicks to hit screens will be Dhanush’s Thangamagan, directed by Velraj. “I play Hema D’Souza, a bubbly, outgoing teenage girl in love with Dhanush in the film. The entire journey was a roller-coaster ride,” says Amy, talking about the film that’s set to hit screens at the end of the week and will take on Bollywood releases Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani
Draw her attention to the fact that her co-stars are full of praise for her hard work and she returns the compliment. “It’s possible to be like that when you have a co-star like Dhanush,” she says. Ask her to name one thing about Dhanush that she wishes would change and she promptly replies, “His hardworking nature. He works so hard that it is impossible to see him idle. Working with this team has been the easiest because both Dhanush and director Velraj knew exactly what they wanted. Dhanush has been an inspiration.”
Now that Thangamagan is done, Amy is busy working on Vijay’s Theri. “I play a Malayali school teacher in the film,” she reluctantly discloses and says that she cannot reveal any more details at this point.
Another prestigious project Amy is part of, is director Shankar’s Endhiran 2. Commenting on the opportunity, she says, “Working with Shankar in I (2015) was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. To get a second chance is overwhelming.”
Sadly, the British actor has so many projects that she won’t have time to celebrate Christmas. “I will be working till New Year. After that, I intend to take a small break and head to Dubai. I will then return and shoot a lot more,” she says.
