Kamal Haasan has eight scripts ready. In fact, he can start shooting for them tomorrow, if he so chooses to,” said director Rajesh M Selva at the trailer launch of the much-awaited Thoongavanam starring the ace actor.

Rajesh, who is making his debut with the film, also revealed that he was often asked how he managed to cope with the challenge of directing Kamal in his very first film.

“Contrary to popular perception, it was very easy directing Kamal. What was difficult was accepting the fact that a man who had written classics like Devar Magan, Mahanadi and Michael Madana Kama Rajan, was entrusting me with the job of directing him. And that made me very tense,” he gushed. “But that was only until he assigned me the responsibility. After that, I considered the opportunity a boon and wanted to make use of the chance.”

The filmmaker added that there was another question that was thrown at him very often.

“People keep asking me about the most exciting moment in my life so far. The fact is I’ve already experienced my biggest moment in life. It was on the day when Kamal sir told me that I was to direct his next film, Thoongavanam, on April 17,” he said, and added that he was a fan of Trisha. “I’ve always been her fan. I have liked her from my school days.” He then turned to Trisha and said, “I studied in MCC and you studied in Church Park.”

The film, which is a bilingual, is being called Cheekati Rajyam in Telugu and is the remake of the 2011 French movie, Sleepless Night.

Apart from Kamal, the film also features Trisha, Prakash Raj, Kishore, Yuhi Sethu, Uma Riyaz and Jagan in important roles.
