Vijay starrer Mersal has hit a roadblock just a day after the release of the film's teaser. The Madras High Court issued an interim stay against the makers of the film from using the title 'Mersal' for distribution and publicity purposes till October 3.

The order from the court came after AR Film Factory producer A Rajendran filed a case claiming that his production company had bought the title 'Mersal Aayitten' from Green Apple Pictures in 2014 and registered in 2015. The producer even claimed that the pre production work his film had started. Rajendran went on to blame the Producers' Council for not taking any action regarding his multiple complaints on the issue which forced him to approach the court.

The Madras HC after hearing the case has ordered the producers of 'Mersal', Sri Thenandal Films to respond by October 3. The court has further issued an interim stay on the film from using the title for advertising, distribution or release.

This is not the first time that a film starring Vijay has been caught in a hurdle. Many of his films including Thalaiva, Thuppakki and Kaththi had previously faced various issues before their release.

The 'Mersal' teaser which released yesterday received a huge thumbs up from the fans and fellow celebrities. The teaser also went on to become the most liked teaser in the world (7,37,000 likes). The film consists of a star-studded cast that includes Kajal Aggarwal, Nithya Menen, Samantha, Sathyaraj and SJ Suryah.

The film's audio which releases a month back became an instant hit amongst the fans.
