If sources are to be believed, the audio rights of Vijay’s Mersal has been sold for a staggering price. Some unconfirmed reports have it that Sony Music South has bought it for a whopping Rs 3.5 crore, the highest in recent times for a Tamil film.

The producer, Thenandal Films, has confirmed that the film’s audio launch will be held on August 20. AR Rahman, who has composed the film’s music, has previously worked on two other Vijay films—Udhaya and Azhagiya Tamil Magan.

Meanwhile, the team has also been busy with selling the distribution rights of the film. MKS Talkies has purchased the Australia and New Zealand release rights of the film, and is expected to release both the Tamil and Telugu versions there. The company’s Twitter profile confirmed this: “Mersal Australia and New Zealand deal done. Expect a Grand release this Diwali.”

Mersal, directed by Atlee, stars Kajal Agarwal, Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menon, with the rest of cast including big names like SJ Suryah, Sathyaraj, Vadivelu, Sathyan, Yogi Babu and Kovai Sarala.
