Unfreedom, Raj Amit Kumar, 2014- Inspired from a poem titled 'Ye Dagh Dagh Ujala' by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, 'Unfreedom' tackled the complex battle of identities. The film was denied a certificate by the Central Board for Film Certification.
I Am, Onir, 2011- The four stories in this anthology film are interwoven with each story. While 'Abhimanyu' is based on child abuse, 'Omar' is on gay rights, 'Megha' is about Kashmiri Pandits and 'Afia' deals with sperm donation.
Ka bodyscapes, Jayan K Cheriyan, 2016- A film which created ripples due to its controversial theme, Ka bodyscapes is about three youngsters who grapple with the structures of patriarchy. The film dares to address right-wing's grip over middle-class family structures as well as misogynistic restrictions in minority households. In 2016, the CBFC refused to give certification to the film.
Fire, Deepa Mehta, 1996- Inspired from 'Lihaaf', a short story by Ismat Chugtai, Deepa Mehta's 'Fire' was banned from releasing in India in 1998 due to protests by right-wing groups against the depiction of lesbianism in the film. The film starred Shabana Azmi and Nandita Das in lead roles.
My Brother…Nikhil, Onir, 2005- Set in Goa between 1986 and 1994, 'My Brother…Nikhil' tells the story of Nikhil, a swimmer who is diagnosed with AIDS. The movie follows Nikhil and his realtionship with his family and boyfriend. The movie is highly appreciated for the way it treated AIDS awareness.
