In Pictures: Osmania University centenary celebrations

The centenary celebrations was marked with the presence of President Pranab Mukherjee, Governor ESL Narasimhan, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, Union minister of State for Labour and Employment Bandaru Dattatreya and others.

Founded in 1918 by Nawab Sarwar Jung, the Osmania University was named after Nawab Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam of erstwhile Hyderabad state. The institution is the seventh oldest in India and the first to be established in Hyderabad state. (EPS|R Satish Babu)

The University has been a hotbed for the Telangana agitation. The demand for a separate statehood became strong during 1968 after a protest in Khammam district. After four decades of struggle, the Telangana state was formed in June 2014. (EPS|R Satish Babu)
