HYDERABAD: Motorists passing through Outer Ring Road (ORR) from Gachibowli to Shamshabad during the night would be treated with the visual delight of the entire stretch being illuminated with modern LED street lights from Sunday.  


It will be inaugurated by GHMC Mayor, B Rammohan on June 4 at 7 pm near Nanakaramguda Toll Plaza.
The stretch covers a length of 24.38 km. The proposed light-emitting diode (LED) system will be provided with GSM-based automation system, web-based management, programming and reporting system. The status of lighting can be controlled and monitored through web from anywhere.


Hyderabad Metro Development Authority (HMDA) Metropolitan Commissioner T Chiranjeevulu said that the proposed street light can be dimmed up to 50 percent. During low traffic hours, power consumption will be reduced to 50 percent. If any abnormality like door opening, bulb failures the alarm message will be send to person authority automatically.


The advantages of proposed LED street lights system is that it consumes less power compared to conventional lights and environment-friendly technology and a system to monitor and control the lights through web from anywhere.


For the stretch, the power saving consumption will be 3,13,199 units and cost saving is `26.09 lakh per month. Monthly power consumption bill from Gachibowli to Shamshabad will be `21.20 lakh without dimming or `18.40 lakh with dimming .


Wheras the LED lighting for the entire work including service road and interchanges will be completed by August 2017. The work was entrusted to Philips Lighting India Limited at an estimated cost of `30 crore.
