HYDERABAD: The management of a private school in Hayathnagar has been booked for illegal confinement of students for an hour and denying to send the students to attend class X examinations for failing to pay the school fee.
As many as 19 students were barred from writing their SSC exams after they reportedly failed to pay their fees. The incident took place at Saritha Vidhya Niketan. The school had reportedly hiked fee last month. But as they failed to pay the fee, even till the day of the exams, principal Pumitha Rajan Prabha of the school locked them up for two hours.

“The detained students failed to pay the fees for this month and for this they were locked up in a room and not allowed to write exams. It is a serious violation of their rights and action must be taken against the school,” said Achyutha Rao of Balala Hakkula Sangham, a child rights body that brought to light the incident. As soon as the police received information, a team rushed to the school and pacified the issue and the students were allowed to attend the examination.

Police have registered cases under section 342 and section 75 of Juvenile Justice Act against the school management. “We have received the complaint and are verifying the facts now,” said J Narender Goud, inspector, Hayathnagar.  During evening hours, one A Jangareddy, parent of one of the children lodged a complaint that his child along with few others had illegally confined the students in the school premises and did not allow them to write the examination.
