HYDERABAD: While jewelry has always been a way to adorn the body, it also has significant meaning and symbolism. In Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming period drama Padmavati - a tale of love and heroism narrating the intertwined life-story of Rani Padmavati, the jewellery recreates Bhansali’s vision of the Rajputana era.

The recent song from the movie Padmavati, Ek Dil Ek Jaan is a soulful, classical number that encapsulates Shahid and Deepika’s royal romance. This song is all about the bond between the Raja Rawal Ratan Singh played by Shahid and his queen Padmini. The Holi scene depicted in this song showcases the purity of love between Padmavati and Rawal Ratan Singh.

Representing the strength of love and purity of Rani Padmavati, the jewellery is created using white and beige elements. Over 700 carat pearls were used in the making of pieces to add to her elegance and beauty. She is adorning a saatlada or seven layered necklace and intricate Basra pearl jewellery with Polki, Kundan and emeralds to celebrate the festival of colors. Jaal earrings made with Basra pearls cover her entire ear to form an elegant pattern.

Speaking about the exquisite jewellery, Deepika Padukone says, “Every piece of jewellery for the film was made to bring out the spirit of the scene and do justice to its era”

Ghoomar, the recently released traditional folk song showcases Deepika Padukone twirling gracefully, mesmerising the audience with her performance of one of the most challenging dance forms. Intricate techniques like Kundan, Basra pearls, Gheri and Meenakari were used to create the special Borlas of graduating sizes, to emulate the stature of a queen.
