HYDERABAD: To promote the culture of cycling and support the underprivileged sports enthusiasts in the country, Wheelathon Foundation is organising a cycling event on July 29 at Delhi Public School, Nacharam.

There are various pre-event programmes such as photography contest, fitness challenge, flash mobs, etc. Indian Idol 5 contest winner Sreeram Chandra is slated to perform for the event. Participants must report at 5:15 am, with flag off scheduled at 5:45 am.

Wheelathon is a student-initiated cycling marathon that runs under the motto ‘Safer, Greener, Fitter’. The slogan this year is, “Join the ride, to bring sustainable tide”. Phoenix Forever is the title sponsor for the event.

The T-shirts for the event were unveiled by Principal S Sunitha Rao, Vice Principal Nandita Sunkara, President of Wheelathon Foundation  Malka Yasasvi, Organiser Meghana Rao and PROs Robin Michael, Mukeshwari.

Speaking on the occasion, Meghana Rao said, “Cycling is the perfect means to drive around. I have also come to realise that a cycle does not discriminate between a man or a woman, old and young, or between rich and poor”.

Chairman Malka Komariah said, “In life, we have alternatives for everything. It’s our choice that makes or breaks the deal. Our deal with the community should always be directed towards improvement and development. Every step counts. Every time you choose cycling, it fuels a better environment and a healthier you. Remember, the key is to never give up”.
