KARACHI / KOCHI: After triggering a controversy by claiming there was no evidence of Ajmal Amir Kasab taking the sea route from Pakistan for the Mumbai attacks, Navy Chief Noman Bashir on Saturday did a volte face saying he had contradicted the government’s report that the terrorists had sailed from Karachi.

Retracting his statement, Bashir said that there were no differences between the Navy and the Interior Ministry on the investigation into Kasab’s role in the Mumbai attacks.

Pakistan Interior Ministry Chief Rehman Malik had admitted on February 12, that the Mumbai attacks were partly plotted on Pakistani soil and launched from its shores.

In Kochi, Defence Minister A K Antony said investigations had proved that the terrorists had taken the sea route to reach Mumbai. Admiral Sureesh Mehta also said that India’s investigating agencies are competent and they had provided correct documents.
