NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir PWD Minister G M Saroori was today asked to tender his resignation to chief minister Omar Abdullah in the wake of the controversy over alleged impersonation of his daughter during an entrance exam.

"The party minister has been asked to resign", Congress general secretary Prithviraj Chavan told PTI tonight.

The development comes on the heels of alleged impersonation of his daughter in the entrance test of Acharaya Shri Chander College of Medical Science.

It was alleged that two youth, including a girl, were appearing in the examination for the kin of two politicians -- Saroori and former minister Ram Pal of the National Conference, Congress' coalition partner in Jammu and Kashmir.

Seven alleged impersonators, including a girl, were apprehended in this connection on August 21.

Jammu and Kashmir government had yesterday announced the probe into the matter would be handed over to the CBI.

Vehemently denying any wrongdoing by his daughter, Saroori had yesterday dubbed it a "misinformation campaign" by vested interests to tarnish his image.

He claimed his daughter Huma is doing her BA course in the Government Women's College here, a fact which was being verified by the police.
