NEW DELHI: Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha MP Virendra Bhatia, who was ailing, died here this morning in a city hospital.

Bhatia, 63, was suffering from various ailments and was undergoing treatment at a hospital here.He is survived by wife and two children.

"He died this morning. His body will be flown to Lucknow for the last rites," SP spokesperson Mohan Singh said here.

Born on April 22, 1947 at Sialkot (Pakistan), Bhatia was Advocate General of the Uttar Pradesh government during the tenure of Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Bhatia was a member of the Select Committee of Rajya Sabha to examine the Commercial Division of High Courts Bill, 2009.

He became the member of Rajya Sabha on April 3, 2006 on a Samajwadi Party quota representing Uttar Pradesh.
