Unaccounted cash seized ahead of Himachal polls

Shimla, Oct 30 (IANS) Unaccounted cash of Rs.1.5 crore has been seized from various parts of Himachal Pradesh ahead of the Nov 4 assembly polls, an Election Commission official said Tuesday.

Unaccounted cash of Rs.1.5 crore has been seized from various parts of Himachal Pradesh ahead of the Nov 4 assembly polls, an Election Commission official said Tuesday.

The seizures are part of the Election Commission's efforts to curb distribution of cash and liquor in the poll-bound state.

A total amount of Rs.2.22 crore was seized till Monday from various parts of the state. Of this, Rs.63 lakh was released after verifying facts. The remaining amount has been deposited in the state treasury, the official said.

Similarly, 2.72 lakh ml of illicit, country-made and Indian-made foreign liquor was also seized from various parts of the state.

The Election Commission has appointed 28 expenditure observers for the state.
