Ishrat case: PP Pandey hospitalised in Ahmedabad

Senior Gujarat IPS officer PP Pandey, who was directed by the Supreme Court to appear before a special CBI court here Monday in connection with the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case, was admitted in a hospital after he complained of chest pains.

Pandey was admitted in Chandramani Hospital at Shahibaug area of the city after he complained of chest pains, sources told PTI.

Dr Rupkumar Agrawal of Chandramani Hospital said that Pandey got admitted this morning.

The Supreme Court had directed the 1982 batch IPS officer to appear before a trial court in Ahmedabad on July 29 and restrained the CBI from arresting him till then.

The Additional DGP was declared absconder in the 2004 fake encounter case of Ishrat Jahan and three others by the Gujarat high court on July 1.

Pandey, as the Joint Commissioner of Police, Ahmedabad, was heading the Crime Branch when Ishrat, Javed Shaikh alias Pranesh Pillai, Amjadali Akbarali Rana and Zeeshan Johar were killed in an encounter allegedly with Gujarat Police on the city outskirts on June 15, 2004.
