KOHIMA: In a change of guard for the Nagaland state unit of BJP, retired bureaucrat Visasolie Lhoungu has been elected unopposed as its new president.

Visasolie succeeded M Chuba Ao on completion of his tenure.  He was elected by an electoral college comprising state council members in the presence of the BJP national secretary and MP, Raman Deka, as central observer and the BJP national secretary of Minority Morcha and in-charge of Nagaland, Farukh Khan.

The appointment order as the new president was handed over to him by the BJP State Election Officer and Parliamentary Secretary, M Mmhonlumo Kikon in Dimapur yesterday. In a statement, Farukh Khan said Visasolie was elected unopposed out of six nominations, including one woman candidate.

Khan hoped the party would soar to higher level under the leadership of the new party president and achieve its ultimate goal of forming a BJP government in the state.
