Sulkhan Singh is new Uttar Pradesh DGP, 12 senior IPS officer shifted

The present ADG (Law and Order) has been shifted to ADG Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Misra’s place.

LUCKNOW:  In the first major shake-up of the police department, CM Aditya Nath Yogi on Friday appointed Sulkhan Singh as the new Director General of Police (DGP) replacing Javeed Ahmed who has been appointed DG Uttar Pradesh Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC).

Additional DG (ADG) Law and Order, Daljeet Singh Chaudhary, has also been transferred and will swap places with Aditya Misra. Ten other senior IPS officers have also been shifted .

Known to be one of the most upright IPS officers in the Uttar Pradesh cadre, 1980 batch IPS officer, Sulkhan Singh, was holding the post of DG Training. He had earlier been on a number of key posts in police headquarters (Allahabad), Training and Jail departments.

Having served as Inspector General (IG) Lucknow zone and earlier as Deputy IG Lucknow Range, he has first-hand experience of crime control and effective policing during his stints in the district police force.

However, being the senior most police officer in Uttar Pradesh at present, Sulkhan Singh will serve a short tenure of five months as UP DGP as he is due for retirement in September, 2017.

Others senior IPS officers transferred on Friday include DG Intelligence Jawahar Lal Tripathi who has now been posted as DG Prosecution. The post was earlier looked after by DG Police Recruitment Board Surya Kumar Shukla, as additional charge.

Shukla will now continue as recruitment board chief. DG Home Guards Alok Prasad has been assigned additional charge of DG Training that fell vacant with Sulkhan Singh’s elevation as DGP.

The new ADG (Law and Order) Aditya Misra, who had recently returned from central deputation and was serving as ADG, Economic Offences Wing (EOW), is also known for his clean image and professional approach towards policing.

The present ADG (Law and Order) has been shifted to ADG Economic Offences Wing (EOW) in Misra’s place.

Other senior IPS officers transferred include ADG (Security) Bhavesh Kumar who has been appointed ADG, Intelligence while ADG ATC Sitapur Vijay Kumar will be the new ADG Security wing.

Meanwhile, IG Navniet Sikera has been divested of the additional charge of IG PAC (Central Zone) and will continue to head 1,090 women’s power line as IG.

On the other hand, DGP Javeed Ahmed’s assistant IG Sanjay Singhal will now look
after the responsibilities of IG PAC (Central Zone).

IG Alok Singh, who has long been on the wait list, has been appointed as IG PAC (Eastern Zone).
