NEW DELHI: CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury was Wednesday heckled by two members of Hindu Sena, a right wing organisation, in party’s Delhi headquarters while he was coming to address media after the two-day Polit Bureau meeting here.

The two men sat inside the hall where media briefing was to be held at AK Gopalan Bhawa and when Yechury was about to enter, they stood up and ran towards him shouting slogans.

Party workers around the Left leader caught both the men and handed them to Delhi Police, which has registered a case.

Hindu Sena, issued a statement, saying "Delhi Police has detained two Hindu Sena activists Upendra Kumar and Pawan Kaul at Mandir Marg Police Station for protesting against Prakash Karat and CPI (M) for their article against the Indian Army. Hindu Sena will not allow any traitor to speak against the country and the army."

Karat in an article in party’s mouth piece had criticized army chief for defending army’s action in dealing with civilian protestors in Kashmir.

When asked about the incident, Yechury said: “We will not be cowed down by any attempts of Sangh's goondagardi to silence us. This is a battle for the soul of India, which we will win.”

He further said the attackers could not reach near him else he would have given them a befitting reply.

Condemning the incident, the Polit Bureau said: “This is typical of the RSS methodology of seeking to browbeat and intimidate the opposition. Such tactics will not be allowed to succeed.”
