CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police on Tuesday filed a 970-page charge sheet against Honeypreet Insan, adopted daughter of Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, and 14 others for instigating violence in Panchkula in which 41 people died after the Dera chief was convicted of raping two women followers.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by Haryana Police and headed by ACP Mukesh Malhotra filed the charge sheet in the court of the chief judicial magistrate, Panchkula. Twelve persons, including Honeypreet Insan alias Priyanka Taneja, her woman accomplice Sukhdeep Kaur,  Dilawar Insan, Daan Singh, Rakesh Kumar (personal assistant of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh), Surinder Dhiman Insan, Govind, Chamkaur Singh (head of Nam Charcha Ghar of Panchkula), and CP Arora, the chartered accountant of the Dera, were chargesheeted under sections 121 and 121-A of IPC (sedition charges), besides other sections, said sources.

Three of the accused have been charged for giving shelter to Honeypreet when she was on the run from the police. Sources said that cash recovered from Chamkaur Singh and documents seized from Honeypreet were among the evidence that formed part of the charge sheet.

Dera spokesman Aditya Insan, who is absconding, has been charged with orchestrating the violence.
“We can file a supplementary charge sheet in the case later, once we arrest the other accused who are absconding,” said Panchkula Police Commissioner A S Chawla.

Before Honeypreet was arrested on October 4 on the Patiala-Zirakpur highway after she had been on the run for 38 days, the police had issued a lookout notice and later an arrest warrant for her.
