MUMBAI: The Central government’s reduction of Goods and Services Tax (GST) rates on some items is an example of how arrogant rulers are made to bow by the people, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday.

“But this is not a Diwali gift,” Thackeray said at a press conference at Sena Bhavan here. “We were being looted and we have only got relief from the loot. But it is being portrayed as if we are being given with a gift.”

The Shiv Sena chief was acerbic in his criticism of the GST regime. “The Central government is taxing taxes. If a man goes to a hotel, he gets a feeling that he is feeding two other people. Ahead of Diwali, people do not have any money left after the Centre looted all of it in the form of taxes,” he said.
