SRINAGAR: An encounter broke out today between militants and security forces in Baramulla district of Kashmir, police said.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Ladoora area following information about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.

He said the search operation turned into a gunbattle when the militants opened fire on the search party.

"The cordon has been strengthened to prevent the militants from escaping," he said, adding no casualties have been reported so far.
