SRINAGAR: A protest shutdown was observed on Tuesday in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district against mysterious braid chopping incidents.

Markets, public transport and other businesses remained closed in Kulgam town and adjacent villages against over half a dozen braid chopping incidents in the district during the last 15 days.

Youths took to streets alleging that two culprits nabbed by them had taken shelter in an Army camp.

Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti on Monday told the state police chief to set up a special team to arrest the culprits.

Such incidents have also taken place in Jammu province earlier.

During these mysterious incidents, women who became victims of the attack said they lost consciousness temporarily. When they recovered, they found their hair had been cut.
