NEW DELHI: The Prime Minister’s Office will directly oversee the affairs of the finance ministry and corporate affairs ministry until finance minister Arun Jaitley recovers completely, sources at both the ministries have said.

“The Finance Secretary will oversee the affair. All secretaries will take care of their departmental work. On important matters, they will send a daily note to the PMO for consultation. So the work at the ministry will not be affected in the absence of the minister,” a senior official at the finance ministry told The New Indian Express.

The official added that if required, on important policy matters, they may consult the Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council. A similar arrangement has been made at Ministry of Corporate Affairs. “For the time being, Injeti Srinivas, Secretary, Corporate Affairs, will oversee the day-to-day affairs and will send a daily report to the PMO till they receive further instruction from the PMO,” an official at MCA said.

Jaitley who holds the finance and corporate affairs portfolios, went public about his kidney ailment on April 5. On Saturday, he was admitted for a kidney transplant at the All India Institute of Medical Science.
