LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today announced that his government will ban plastic in the state from 15 of July. The move comes after the recent Allahabad judgment to ban plastic across the state.
The announcement comes two weeks after the Maharashtra government banned plastic across the state. Hefty fines were also imposed on plastic users with people paying Rs. 5000 for the first offence, Rs.10000 for second and Rs. 25000 for the third offence. The Maharashtra government, however, had issued a three-months notice to shopkeepers using plastic bags for delivery purposes before enforcing the ban.
The ban put an end to the manufacture, usage, sale, transport, distribution, wholesale and retail sale and storage, import of plastic bags with or without handle, and disposable products made out of plastic and thermocol.
Under the ban, the Maharashtra government made a separate provision for plastic used for medicinal purposes, food grade plastic, compostable packaging bags and plastic used for exporting goods.
